deja vu

Today was supposed to be a good day! The first of a long 10 day stint home with family, BUT we woke up, made Kev scrambled eggs and toast and headed off to GMC for the neupogen shot... it was all down hill from there. From either the car ride or my delightful scrambled eggs (which I doubt) Kev became very ill for about 4 hours. A lot of (not so bright) people felt it would help the situation by looking at Kev (with a just smelled fart look) and tell him how awful he looked. Now Kev was reassured that he feels and looks terrible! It was a good opportunity to use the line, "he has cancer, whats your excuse" but we decided it was better to make friends than enemies.

Kev is also zeroing in on neutropenia, we left on Saturday with a count of 3500 and they measured today a count of 590. I'm not a doctor, but I know math... thats a big drop in a short amount of time. He should be neutropenic tomorrow and wednesday, then back up by Thursday or Friday.

Kev fought really, really, really hard today!! A normal person may have broken down or have wanted to give up, but Kev merely muttered an occasional, "this sucks" and continued to look ahead. He has now completed 50% of his treatment, but continues to give 100% in effort. Once he reaches his normal 110%, he'll be well on his way to Bora Bora, or (dad said it best) some other place we never heard of.

Hi Kevin,

We're all praying for you, and you continue to inspire us with your courage. Here's a quick story that I hope makes you smile:

So I went over to my parent's house on Halloween to visit my little brother (he's 12) before he went out trick-or-treating. When I get there he tells me that he couldn't think of any good costumes, so he just decided to go as the Ultimate Notre Dame Fan (he wants to go there just like his big brother). He's wearing an ND jersey, ND shorts, ND socks, and an ND hat. Anyway, when I see the costume, I say "Aidan, that costume sucks!" Keep in mind that ND football is AWFUL this year; we're 1-8 right now. So I thought long and hard about how to make a good costume that would impress his friends. We decided to keep all the ND stuff, but we ended up cutting the ends off of a jump rope and tying it into a noose for him to put around a neck!! It was hilarious. Everyone thought he had the best costume in the neighborhood!

Stay strong,
Ryan

PS -- Your family is doing a great job with this blog!

Hi Kev,

Wuhoo! You're half way there! You are getting all good marks so far and have made a LOT of progress!

I'm glad you get to be home, in your own bed with your own pillows. That can make a huge difference (particularly in the middle of the night)! How does that new bell work?

Just keep kicking it in the teeth son and you'll be on the other side of this thing in no time!

Love, Your Other Momma
