home sweet home

Kev is home! We woke up to Dr. Ron's smirking face and he was very impressed with Kev's tenacity to push through and how well he looked. It was a tough climbing out of the that last neutropenic hole... even the doctors knew it.

Kev was discharged, but not free... one last visit from Physical Therapy! The cute little lady, like every other female, has grown attached to Kev and she sat on the bed and chatted a bit. She is 22 with a great smile and a tumor on her pituitary gland in her brain, huh? Kev and her traded war stories and the usual just gotta fight and move on talk, but she left the room with just as much gusto as when she left, not even phased by the reminder of the tumor in her head. Then Kev begins to talk of how we need to remind the doctors of the next intrathecal treatment! Strong spirit and determined to win in the end is an understatement! All should be inspired by these hard fighting, never give up, it's just cancer individuals and hope are half as sane at that moment!!

So far so good though... meds are stocked and we're looking pretty good.

spine well spent

Another productive day as far as chemo is concerned. Kev started the day about mid-afternoon with an Intrathecal chemo treatment. He said it hurt a bit this go around, but he managed very well. A few hours later and they had another round of chemo dripping from the IV. No real movement, but at least the piles of chemo were absorbed.

No therapy of any kind today, apparently someone sticking a ginormous needle in your spine exempts you from having to deal with, "stand up", "sit down", "can you feel this", "wanna go for a walk", which is fine by Kev. There also were no results from the biopsy of the throat culture.. someone must be out on holiday!! Speaking of holiday, it looks like Kev should be home for Thanksgiving. Whether we need to return for neupogen is yet to seen, but at least will be at home for a better part of each day. Other than that it's business as usual, food network and eating ... for now!

by the by, updates have been made to the website... pictures were added.

week - end

It was a pretty good weekend at the GMC. Kev took all his chemo real well and only has one more tomorrow. Depending on what is said or scheduled about the Intrathecal it looks like we should be home for the holidays ... if Kev feels up to it. In the past we rushed getting out of here because home is where the heart is, but that proved to be a mess for all parties involved. We're gonna let this ride and if we have turkey at the hospital so be it, they just don't allow beer @!#$%!

Kev is walking a lot better and his appetite is back full fledged. Just like the first cycle, he can't get enough to eat... has the munchies times 10. Last time all the food was going in, but nothing was coming out... the plumbing was clogged. This go around the pipes seem to be working better, so far.

There was a break from physical/ occupational therapy over the weekend, but tomorrow it starts again. His white count should hold stable for the next 5 - 7 days, then we're down and out again. It is very important that Kev works to get his strength before he drops for a lot of reasons.

keep'm crossed about the side effects... so far so good.
